This is technically my second time successfully installing OSx onto my PC but the first time around was more to see if it was possible and I ended up installing it onto an older hard drive and would take forever to load apps/boot.
Encouraged to try again I bought a cheap 128GB M.2 SSD and reinstalled onto that and I'm happy to say it runs beautifully!
Build:
CPU | i5 6600k @ 4.0GHz |
---|---|
GPU | RX 480 8GB (Reference Model) |
RAM | 16GB DDR4 @ 2133MHz |
Mobo | Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3 |
I have 4 hard drives installed to my system, and with the addition of OSx I wanted to be able to have a shared drive to which I can work off of no matter which OS I'm using; so I went with this setup:
- 256GB SSD (Windows)
- 128GB M.2 SSD (OSx)
- 750GB HDD (NTFS Formatted for Windows)
- 1TB HDD (exFAT Formatted for Both)
I followed this guide for the bios settings and patches. I then followed this guide for the 480 to work (Requires being on 10.12.6)
I don't use iMessage to test it out but everything else works just fine. Only problems I get (which are small details) is some of the window animations are choppy (moving from one monitor to another, maximizing windows, etc), the cursor will turn huge for a split second when touching window corners, and the mouse itself feeling a little weird as far as sensitivity and scrolling was abysmal at first (fixed by installing SmoothScroll for Mac). Any hints or fixed for that would be greatly appreciated!
