How do I fix external SSDs showing as internal?

A quick search revealed someone had this issue and used a MultiBeast El Capitan patch and it worked.

I am on Sierra 10.12.6 vanilla. My config.plist contains the "External icons patch". That seems handy on non Intel SATA controllers that have internal drives showing as external. Exactly the opposite.

My USB enclosure/SSD - It is connected to an Intel Z270 based USB port. Interesting note; if I put a mechanical drive into the USB enclosure, it shows up as External.

Anyone having this problem or know how to resolve it?
