Can you upgrade Hackintosh builds the same way you would with authentic Apple hardware?

Hi everyone, the title says it all but for reference, I'm planning to install Sierra on an XPS 15 9560 and upgrade it to High Sierra. Does it work the same way as a regular mac? Thanks in advance
