X99 12 Core Xeon with a GTX 1080 Ti Working

I have not tried to build one of these for a number of years, however with the new Mac Pros not coming until at least April, I decided to try this again. I picked up a used ASUS X99-M-WS and a Xeon E5-2670v3 (12 core 2.2GHz) used as I figured this would be a temporary set up. Then I purchased a GTX1080 Ti as I was struggling to find a GTX1070 along with 32GB ECC RAM and a 1TB 2.5" SSD.

I have not done a Hackintosh since the P45 days, when I had a Core 2 Quad, DDR2, and a 9800GTX +. So it is safe to say I have been very far out of the loop. It is nice to come back in and see how things have progressed.

For the install I downloaded 10.12 from the app store onto my MacBook Pro. Then I used the TonyMac Unibeast installer to load up my flash drive with a bootable OS X installer. I then downloaded the latest version of Clover from Source Forge, once I realized that Unibeast was not the latest version of Clover. Ran the latest version of clover on the USB stick. Then downloaded the KEXTs and config files from this Insanelymac thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/313296-guide-mac-osx-1012-with-x99-broadwell-e-family-and-haswell-e-family/page-1?hl=%20x99

However, the DSDT was not correct, thankfully Clover is awesome! I hit F4 once Clover launched and pulled the DSDT file from there. Moved the DSDT to its new come and the OS X installer booted right up.

OSX install went smoothly, zero issues. I then ran Clover on the new boot drive. Copied all the kext, config and dsdt files over. Restarted the computer, installed the latest NVIDIA web drivers, restarted, screen went black. Disabled Nvidia web drivers in Clover Installed 12.5, restarted, updated the NVIDIA web drivers, restarted. Added darkwake=0 to the Clover boot scripts. 1080Ti recognized.

Only thing missing was audio which I downloaded the latest VoodooHDA for and put it in the EFI partition. Everything else appears to be working right now including Wifi, Bluetooth, drives, USB, iCloud, etc.

I have played around with this build a little bit now, and I have a few observations. For the type of work that I do I am not sure the 12 core 2.2GHz was the right choice. I think I might have done better with a higher clock speed processor and a fewer cores. The E5-1650v3, E5-2643v3, E5-2667v3, or the E5-2687v3 might be better choices, but I did not have those as I was buying used equipment. Also I think I am going to bite the bullet and put 32GB more RAM in it and max the RAM out.

This was hands down the easiest Hackintosh I have done, and the install survived the 10.12.5 system upgrade without any issues.

I felt I should share this experience as there is not much content on X99 builds out there compared to the Z170 builds, especially Xeon builds.
