Hey there everyone, a few questions I would like to ask about hackintosh-ing my current PC.
- Should I install macOS on a separate (physical) drive or can I install it on a partition of my existing SSD running Windows 7 ?
- I have 3 hard drives (one SSD, and two HDDs), will it be a problem once macOS is installed / installing or will it just recognize them as Windows drives and not worry about them ?
- I don't have a WiFi or a Bluetooth card in my system, and I cannot afford one right now. Will macOS still work ? (I'm forced to use ethernet anyways due to my house's walls)
- Same for a microphone. I don't have one. If I add one USB microphone later (in september I think) will I need to do anything or will this be plug-and-play ?
- Is it safe to follow this guide ? I've seen a few people hating on the tonymacx86 tutorials in the past (I've been a lurker here for a few months) but this guide seems straightforward and pretty simple (I really don't want to fuck up the installation and risk to destroy anything during the process).
- Should I disconnect all other drives except for the destination drive while installing macOS, and plug them back later, or can I just leave my W7 drives plugged in ? (I repeat, I do not want to lose any data during the installation)
- What is the deal with Clover ? Do I need to fine-tune it to my system ? Isn't it just a "plug-and-play" bootloader life rEFInd ?
- If I want to get rid of macOS and Clover in a few years, do I just delete the partitions they are installed on, and set my W7 drive as boot or is the process more complicated than that ?
- For installation, it is recommended to disable multiple features on modern CPUs such as VT-d. Is it only for installation ? Because VirtualBox on windows gets a pretty huge improvement with VT-d turned on.
- Where should I install Clover anyway ? On my mobo's BIOS partition or on a MBR drive ?
Sorry if those questions were asked before, I'm just clueless about how to go about it, and would really like macOS on my desktop PC for Swift development at home.
Thanks a bunch in advance
Oh yeah and here are my specs. Could you quickly check if everything's OK ? Normally everything should be OK (I looked on multiple forums for compatibility) but if there is a problem, let me know :
Part | Hardware |
---|---|
CPU | i5 4690k |
Mobo | MSI Z97 Gaming 5 |
GPU | MSI GTX 970 Gaming Edition |
RAM | HyperX Fury 1x8GB DDR3 (1866Mhz but RAM speeds shouldn't be of any importance, no ?) |

HDD n°1 | Seagate 1TB SATA 6GB/s |
HDD n°2 | Western Digital 3TB SATA 6GB/s |
