Can not get video to work on sierra

I am using a GTX 970 and trying to get video to work with the nvidia web drivers. when I use my GPU I just get a blank screen where the apple logo and loading bar should be. If I use onboard graphics i get IOConsoleUsers: gIOScreenLockState 3, hs 0, bs 0, now 0, sm 0x0

If I boot with my onboard graphics and I inject intel then I get to the apple logo with the loading bar but nothing happens. I can't figure out what is wrong and I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out.
