Reboot halts machine but shutdown works. Why? #iATKOS #ML2

Hi,

Might any guru here know why a machine with 10.8.4 can reboot "almost" fine but halt just when it has to restart? (i.e.: everything closed fine, but it won't restart).

I'm on 10.8.4, with an Acer Aspire 6935G laptop. If I reboot... it successfully closes OSX, goes to black screen, but... halts there (with the blue led of the power button on and the fan working). It won't restart.

OTOH, if I shutdown, it does it right: The blue led of the power button is turned off, and the fan stops.

Putting or removing NULLCPU power management kext doesn't seem to make a difference. The problem happens no matter if I put it or remove it (so I chose to remove it because I've read it's better to avoid using it).

Funny thing is that reboot _did_ work _fine_ when I just finished installing 10.8.4. So it must be some change I did later. The only changes I did later were extracting the DSDT with DSDT editor, and running Chameleon Wizard, as well as removing AppleHDA and installing VoodooHDA (to get sound), as well as the ethernet kext (these two kexts were installed with the kext utility).

I didn't apply any patch to the DSDT.aml (mainly because I've no idea about patching :D ) I just extracted it and chose it from the Chameleon Wizard.

Now some more info in case it could help:

I installed (vanilla) 10.8.4 on this 6935G laptop (Core2Duo,DDR3,Geforce9600M-GT), with Chameleon, DSDT editor, and Kext utility. I used a MacbookPro 5,1 Bios because it seems to be the closest machine to mine. I got almost everything working now (except WiFi but I don't care because ethernet works).
